Special Provisions: Members shall be well known for their character, ability and business acumen. (G.S. 18B-16 — No person who is a stockholder (nor a blood relative to a degree of first cousin of an individual who is a stockholder) in any brewery or the owner of any interest therein in any manner whatsoever, or interested therein directly or indirectly or likewise interested in any distillery or other enterprise that produces, mixes, bottles, or sells alcoholic beverages). Terms: The initial board is to consist of three (3) appointees for terms of one year; three(3) appointees for terms of two years; and one (1) appointee for term of three years. Thereafter, all appointments are to be for terms of three years, with reappointment permitted. Any vacancy on the Advisory Board is to be filled by the Board of Commissioners for the remainder of the unexpired term.
Special Provisions: Each Advisory Board member shall be a Stanly County resident or landowner. At least five(5) of the members shall be actively engaged in farming. At least one of members actively engaged in farming shall be nominated by the Stanly County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. The members actively engaged in farming, as well as other members, shall be selected for appointment by the Board of Commissioners from the names of individuals submitted to the Board of Commissioners by the Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors, the County Office of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, the U.S. Farm Service Agency County Committee, nonprofit agricultural organizations, conservation organizations, agribusiness, and the public at large.
Method of Appointment: The Advisory shall elect a chairperson and vice-chairperson each year at it’s first meeting of the fiscal year. The chairperson shall preside over all regular or special meetings of the Advisory Board. In the absence or disability of the chairperson, the vice-chairperson shall preside and shall exercise all the powers of the chairperson. Additional officers may be elected as needed.
Purpose/Mission: Promote agricultural values and the general welfare of the county and more specifically, increase identity and pride in the agricultural community and it’s way of life; encourage the economic and financial health of agriculture; and increase protection from non-farm development and other negative impacts on properly managed farms.

Method of Appointment: The State Chairman of each political party having the highest number of registered affiliates has the right to recommend to the State Board the names of three registered voters in each county for membership. The State Board is required to appoint two (2) members of each party from the names submitted by the State Chairman of each party. The Governor appoints one (1) member to each county board to serve as the chair.
